We’re Making Giants Strides Against Boko Haram – COAS

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai on Tuesday said that the Nigeria Armed Forces are making giants strides against the Islamic State West Africa and Boko Haram terrorists in the Northeastern part of the country. 

The COAS made this known in Abuja at the Career planning and management seminar 2020, themed “Career planning and management in the Nigerian Army as means of sustaining professionalism and effectiveness responsiveness in Nigeria Army operations” put together by the Military Secretary Department. 

Meanwhile, Buratai said “I’m glad that we are making giant strides against Islamic State West Africa (ISWAP) in our bid to unhinged the unholy union between them and the remnants of Boko Haram Terrorists”.

Similarly, he noted that the Army’s engagement with security challenges in the Northeast necessitated the need for good leadership hence career planning and development for good human resource management.

Buratai, however stated that the seminar is designed acquaint officers with contemporary approaches to military human resources management to get the best by providing effective leadership to men.

“It will avail you opportunity to understand policies by AHQ on career  planning and the part you are expected to play”, he said.

Furthermore, the COAS while speaking on the need for career planning and development implored commanders and unit commanders to push the limit boundaries of success in the troops efforts of the Operation Lafiya Dole Theatre and sustain the progress, adding that they must ensure that all directives are followed through religiously. 

Also speaking at the event, the Army Secretary, Major Gen. Gabriel Ochigbano said the seminar was part of efforts to improve on officers career planning and development.

Ochigbano explained that the department which hitherto relied on annual reports written on officers noticed a gap in the process thus initiated the annual gathering of young officers nominated from various Corps and sisters services.
