East Africans sweep Maiden ECOWAS-Abuja International Marathon Prize Money

John Mururi from Kenya Maiden and his compatriot,
Cheptoeck Careen emerged winners of the male and female categories of the maiden edition of the ECOWAS-Abuja International half marathon.
By emerging champions, both marathoners won for themselves the $10,000 prize money for both categories.
The second position in the male category went to fellow East Africans, Macha Adame from Ethiopia, while Nigerian, Emmanuel Gnang came third.
Nigeria performed better in the female category where Deborah Pam returned second, while the third place position went to Olude Fadekemi also from Nigeria.
Over 600 Athletes were said to have registered for the maiden marathon event which kick-started at the ECOWAS secretariat, Asokoro and finished at the Abuja Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Garki.
The marathoners who returned from first to the tenth position all went home with prize monies with the tenth place person going home with $1000.
Special athletes were not left out in the prize monies as Ezekiel Elisa emerged the best para marathoner.
Special prize and recognition was also given to 74 year old John Achu from Cameroon
