President Buhari commends ‘doctors without borders’

President Muhammadu Buhari has commended an international humanitarian medical NGO, Medecins Sans Frontiers known as Doctors Without Borders in English, for its activities in the rural communities in Nigeria.

Buhari who received, the International President of the organization Dr. Christos Christou at the State House, Abuja on Friday, said the nation was appreciative for their selfless services to Nigeria. “We are grateful to you. We will secure the environment in order for you to do your job. You are not doing it for profit. We remain very appreciative,” Buhari said.

In a statement by the Special Adviser to the President, Femi Adesina, the President noted that his administration was committed to the welfare of every Nigerians, and establishing the Ministry of Humanitarian affairs, was a proof of commitment. “We know the pathetic situation of children not knowing where their parents are, or the communities they come from, and that was why we established the new Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development. This is to harness and channel resources to such deprived people,” Buhari declared.

In his response, Dr. Christou said the organization has been active in Nigeria since 1996, is currently working in 10 states across the federation and has budgeted N17.7 billion for 2020 programmes.
