NDA Commandant Sends Off Cadet Ogunmola to Royal Military Academy Sandhurst

In a ceremony held at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) on April 9, 2025, Major General JO Ochai, the Commandant, bid farewell to Cadet Covenant Toluwanimi Ogunmola, who has been selected to attend further military training at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom.

Cadet Ogunmola’s selection is a result of his exceptional performance and dedication, showcasing the academy’s commitment to merit-based selection. The Commandant expressed pride in the cadet, emphasizing the honor of representing both the NDA and Nigeria on an international platform.

“You are not just flying the NDA flag; you carry the emblem of Nigeria,” General Ochai declared, urging Cadet Ogunmola to embody exemplary conduct among international peers. He stressed that hard work is key to justifying his selection and encouraged him to strive for excellence as a role model.

The Commandant offered words of caution, reminding the cadet to be mindful of cultural nuances in the UK and maintain perspective in social interactions. “Don’t take minor jokes seriously; keep your eyes on the prize – aim to be the best all-round cadet,” he advised.

The ceremony featured the presentation of a plaque to Cadet Ogunmola, symbolizing recognition of his achievements and the collective support of the NDA. As a member of the 72 Regular Course, he studied Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.

By representing Nigeria at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Cadet Ogunmola is expected to uphold the values of the NDA and Nigeria, showcasing the country’s excellence on a global stage. The academy’s vision is to produce officers with broad-based training in both military and academic subjects, designed to serve as a foundation for future progressive development of officers in the Nigerian Armed Forces.
