Gov Abba Yusuf To Appeal Tribunal Judgement
The governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has said that he is going to appeal the tribunal judgement that nullified his victory on Wednesday.
The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Kano on Wednesday declared the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Nasiru Gawuna, winner of the Kano governorship election.
Nullifying the election of Mr Yusuf, the tribunal ruled that he was not elected by the majority of lawful votes.
Recall that the grounds upon which the court declared Mr Gawuna as validly elected are that both the 1st and 3rd respondents admitted over-voting.
The tribunal therefore held that overvoting amounting to 200,000 votes alleged by the petitioner are true.
In a swift reaction at a press conference at government house in Kano, Mr Yusuf said the judgement was riddled with errors and misapplication of law.
According to him, his lawyers identified many errors and loopholes in the judgement which he hoped would be corrected at the Court of Appeal.
He disclosed that the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, had already instructed its legal teams to start processing the appeal as soon as possible.
“There are errors and misapplication of the law as pointed out by my lawyers. There is room for appeal. I have already instructed our legal team to start appeal process as soon as possible,” he said.

Mr Yusuf however said the judgement would not dampen his spirit of fulfilling his campaign promises for Kano people, adding that it is a temporary setback that would go soon.
“I call on Kano people to be calm and law abiding. People should not take law in their hands. Security agents are everywhere in the city to ensure law and order.
“This will never dampen our spirit and it is a temporary setback which would go soon by the will of Allah.
“I call on my supporters to be calm and go about their lawful businesses and hopeful of reclaiming our mandate in the appeal court,” he said
