Jamoh, DG NIMASA Conferred With OFR National Honour By President Buhari

The Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency(NIMASA), Bashir Yusuf Jamoh has been conferred with Order of the Federal Republic(OFR) National honour by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Jamoh was amongst the 447 distinguished men and women who received the award at the International conference center, Abuja, October 11th 2022.

The Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) is one of two orders of merit, established by Federal established by the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1963.

7 of those honored are foreigners.

The event is part of a series of activities to mark the country’s 62nd independence anniversary.

Following the investiture ceremony, Dr Bashir Jamoh was celebrated at an intimate lunch, where he hosted family, friend’s colleagues, staff of NIMASA as well as several dignitaries and well-wishers.

One of such dignitaries is the minister of transportation, Engr. Muazu Jaji Sambo who commended Jamoh OFR for his hardwork which led to him deserving the recognition he has received, he said “I think this award should be dedicated to the blue economy, the future of Nigeria and indeed every coastal nation is to be catered upon how we manage our oceans, maritime economy and bodies of waters that God has endowed us with”

“Climate change, erosion, environmental pollutions and other activities of the human being has contributed immensely in affecting the environment in which we live, unfortunately, the environment was meant for man to exploit and be able to survive and be comfortable, however, in the process of exploiting the environment, man has not paid attention to doing that with some precaution, so that future generations can also reap from the environment, I am emphasizing on the environment because Dr Bashir Jamoh has taken some unprecedented steps since he became DG of NIMASA and this has been recognized not only by Nigeria but also international observers”

He further congratulated the celebrant on the achievement of this milestone, and he referred to him as a man of honor and also well deserving of the honors conferred on him, he advised him to do greater because with recognition comes responsibility, he urged him to take the award as a challenge to make Nigeria proud.

In his vote of thanks, Dr Jamoh thanked and appreciated everyone for honoring him.

He said “All of us here, converged to celebrate with me, for this honor given to me by my dear nation and the federal republic of Nigeria, by the president himself, I can assure you and I want to tell you that the future is not yet easy. I will like to appreciate all of you who volunteered and sacrificed his time to join in celebrating this particular honour given to me and in addition to that, I want to assure you that the journey has just begun. Whatever I am doing in terms of serving my dear nation that made individuals and the country to recognize me with this, I will have to double the efforts and ensure that I have done my best to explore the post given to me”

Others present were the former director general of NIMASA who gave the welcome address while congratulating the new OFR and reiterating the roles he has played in the past that have qualified him for such an honor. Dr Bashir Jamoh had served the Nigerian maritime sector as an administrator for over 30 years when he was appointed director general of NIMASA in March 2020 by President Muhammadu Buhari.
