IKOYI BUILDING: Death Toll Hits 36, 9 Rescued Alive
The death in the 21 story collapsed building in the highbrow settlement of Ikoyi, Lagos has risen to 36 and 9 persons have been rescued alive.
The rescue and emergency personnel have evacuated nine persons alive from the debris of the fallen building.
The survivors comprised eight males and one female, while the fatalities had three females and 33 males.
AsphericNews had earlier reported about the 21-storey building collapsed on Monday at Gerrard Road, Ikoyi Lagos with repeated update on the casualty figures.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, Minister of Works and former Lagos Governor, Babatunde Fashola, and Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba have all visited the scene of the collapsed building.
Sanwo-Olu has constituted a panel to look into the disaster and vowed to bring all those responsible to face the full extent of the law.
Police authorities have also vowed to punish those responsible for the collapse of the building.
