We are working hard to see peace is attained in the country- IGP Usman Alkali
The Inspector General of Police Usman Alkali Baba, while speaking at the state house, brief the press on the current efforts by the Nigeria police force, setting up a background he said,
“the Nigeria police is working hard in making sure that peace is attain in the country and laws are obeyed by citizens. For it is in the present of peace that people can go about their daily activities and achieving their goals. As we all know nothing strived better in the midst of chaos. It is imperative that we seek for peace and see peace as a duty.”
He also pointed out that the security challenges in the state hassured the citizens that there is a synergy between the Nigeria police force and other securities agencies in the state like the Nigerian army, the State security service etc, to help in curbing crimes in the state.
Speaking further, he equally stated that all six geo – political zones are carried along in the fight to end crime in the country, pointing out that in the North-east there are cases of some notorious criminals who are involved in perpetrating criminal activities such as Kidnapping of school students, Killings, robbery, production of weapons for the destruction of lives and vandalization of power cables, all these are some of the common and major crimes been perpetrated in these areas.
The IGP while speaking in the state house assured that with the collaboration of various securities bodies working as a team will definitely help bring this challenges to a logical conclusion. He pointed out that the police is deploring more buses, kenetic and non- kenetic approaches to help revive and support the ongoing efforts in the fight against banditry, herdsmen and all manners of crimes in the North-West and North-Central parts of the country.
He added that on the 18th and 19th of May 2021, the police has lunched “Operation Restore Peace” in the South- South and South- east part of the country to help ensure public orderliness from lawlessness and to help reduce the demands of the secessionist
While speaking at the state house, the inspector general of police said that there is an ongoing community relationship between the police and members of the community to help improve on ethical/moral and social requirements in other to build peace in the state, reducing cultism and curtail corruption.
To achieve this, the police intend to employ technical methods, that would come up with short plays and dramas for enlightenment in schools and public place that would help to discourage citizens involvement in crimes. The Nigeria Police Command, National and Control Centre Called the “NPCNC -eye” , the Nigeria Police Force and Incidence Database, NPC Hai centers are some of the deriven measures put in place to address this challenges, members of the public are expected to use the benefits of this channels and direct their complaint to the complain room for responses.
The IGP stated categorically that the police is embarking on deliberate actions by visiting places or areas where arms are illegally produced, hired or sold. This operation is to help reduced and demised places where these actions are been carried out. Hence, the police is collaborating with the Inter- pol to ensure the production and supply of arms are properly and adequately verified. He state that arrest and prosecution of seven thousand thirty six persons is ongoing while 1, 845 cases of armrobbery suspects has been successful concluded. Some stolen cars and weapons have been recovered. Some serial killers have been prosecuted and sentence to dead by hanging to serve as deterrent to others.
The inspector general of police pointed out that the ENDSARS protest has given the police a new face, the endsars has been disbanded and a new group called SWAT has been created with special training and equipments, all arrested protesters has been released except those with related or special case like vandalization of government properties.
The inspector general of police said that another phase of recuritmet into the police force is ongoing, the police recuritmet portal is opened and is expected to take 10,000 applicants for 2021.
