Nestle Plc gifts 23 students Scholarship for Community Development

Nestle Nigeria Plc on Thursday awarded scholarship to qualified 23 students who met the required criteria for the Community scholarship scheme organised for Abaji Community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Head of Communication and Public Affairs, Victoria Uwadoka while Speaking in Abuja at the launch of the Nestle Community Scholarship Scheme said the scheme was meant to provide quality education to promising young students so as to improve their talents in the technical know-how as this will enable the beneficiaries and their communities benefit from the opportunity.
”The reason why we are doing this is because we have establish technical training centres which we wanted it to benefit communities closest to our factory but we could not find the right talents within the communities to fill this opportunities.
Meanwhile, Ms. Uwadoka noted that the scheme which was meant to benefit 40 students, (20students each for secondary school and tertiary categories) could only be awarded to 23students as others were unable to meet up with the criteria for the scheme and an awardee could forfeit his or her scholarship if he or she breaches the terms and condition guiding this scholarship.
She further disclosed that the scheme is going to be an annual award and those who are already on the scheme will get continuous support from Nestlé PLC as long as they keep meeting up with criteria for the scholarship adding that each recipient would also get a vocational training which includes structural, mechanical, and different parts of engineering at the technical training centers.
“Altogether, we have 23 beneficiaries. 3students for the tertiary category and 20students for the Senior Secondary category.
These young people will get further training for about 18months intensively and it includes theory and practical.”
Selected Best 5 then goes to Switzerland for a 3month training to intensify their studies, at the end of this training, Nestle place prepares them for the city and gills technical certification which is a global certification and can be used to work for international organizations”, she said.
Secretary, Abaji Area Council, Kamal Suleiman in his remarks noted that the scholarship scheme was transparent and crystal clear as awardees were picked base on merit.
He however implore students to sit up and make good use of this opportunity while reiterating his commitment to ensuring that the synergy between the Abaji community and the Nestle plc brings more development to the community.
Responding, one of the beneficiaries, Jeremiah Iganga while expressing his gratitude stated that the scheme has given him an opportunity to having resources that will enable him get to his desired goal.
