Covid-19: Nigeria remains 4th Nation with highest cumulative cases in Africa, Health Minister commissions 456 motorcycles
Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19, Boss Gidahyelda Mustapha, has hinted that Nigeria remains the 4th highest nation with cumulative cases in Africa. He disclosed this during the National Press Briefing of Monday, August 24. Mustapha noted that there were over 38,000 recoveries recorded.
“With our statistics standing at CASES: 52,227, FATALITIES: 1,002 and RECOVERIES: 38,945, however, Nigeria maintains the 4th highest cumulative cases in the continent,” Boss Mustapha said.
Mustapha further noted that 252 additional Nigerians were evacuated from the United Arab Emirates, bringing the total number of Nigerians that have returned home to 4,984. He called on Nigerians to join hands in the fight against the coronavirus. “Let’s keep arming the unbreakable Nigerian spirit to win this war and drive the virus out of our land. Join the hashtag #MaskOnNaija National awareness campaign,” he said.
On his part, the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, has enumerated the efforts of his ministry towards preventing the spread of Covid-19, to include the provision of 456 motorcycles and computers. Ehanire also said that his ministry was in touch with both local and international collaborators.
“On Friday, 21st August, 2020, I had the pleasure of commissioning 456 Motorcycles and Computers meant to enhance the Routine Immunization Officers ability for supportive supervision of service providers, and support the generation and on-site utilisation of programme data to continuously improve the quality of the immunization programme in Nigeria.
“We have continued to inter-phase with different professional groups using different fora e.g. meeting via online platforms locally and internationally. This is to keep in touch with new findings and treatment measures. Last Friday, I had a meeting with the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN) and the Guild of Medical Directors (GMD). One of the highlights from the meeting was the pledge of the Medical practitioners to support the National Emergency Treatment Services and Ambulance System (NEMSAS). Moving forward we shall work together in partnership towards improving health outcomes,” the health minister said.
