FG inaugurates campaign team for Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s DG WTO position

The Federal Government has inaugurated a team to campaign for  Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who is vying for the Director General of the World Trade Organization. This was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja by the Minister for Trade and Investment’s Assistant Director of Information, Oluwakemi Ogunmakinwa.

According to the statement, the Minister for Trade and Investment, Adeniyi Adebayo, said President Buhari’s decision to nominate Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was done in good faith, adding that he was confident that Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala will get the job,

Adebayo said: “An eminently qualified candidate in the position of Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala with proven leadership, bold reformer, a skillful negotiator with abilities to broker numerous agreements that would promote fair trade should be selected for the position. “I am confident that Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala possesses the qualities to lead the most important global multilateral body.”

According to the statement, the Minister of State, Mariam Katagum is the campaign team leader. The team also has officials of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and representatives of the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.

Others include representatives from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Federal Ministry of Finance, Nigerian Ambassador to  ECOWAS and African Union, as well as Geneva–based officials.
