32 arrested in a clash
A total number of 32 persons have been arrested in a clash.
People in the affected area said the conflict erupted Tuesday night and lasted till yesterday, and said hundreds of people have already been displaced due to houses and other properties destroyed and while a number of domestic animals were rustled in the process.
“The violence, which occurred overnight between Waja and Lunguda ethnic nationalities were the fallout of a prolonged dispute over a piece of land,” a source who does not want to be quoted disclosed.
“Some of the communities affected in the violence which include Mamsirme, Boshikiri, Zakawon and Burti, all in Lunguda communities were reportedly burnt down,” the source added.
Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Crowther Seth, in the company of the Brigade Commander of the 23 Brigades Yola, Brigadier General Sani Mohammed, the Secretary to the State Government, Bashiru Ahmad, the Commissioner for Education, Wilbina Jackson, member representing Guyuk in Adamawa Assembly, Adawa Donglock and the chairmen of both Lamurde and Guyuk, councils visited the scene, in the early hours of yesterday, for on the spot assessment.
Crowther Seth assured that the government will investigate and bring perpetrators to book, but warned against further escalation of the violence. The recurring conflict, which has intermittently occurred over the last few decades has claimed hundreds of lives and properties.
