Akwa Ibom State Government betones Environmental Sanitation amidst Covid-19
The Akwa Ibom State Government has reiterated the need for a clean environment, amidst the prevailing Coronavirus pandemic. The State’s Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Ekong Sampson, stated this when he accompanied the Chairman Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency, Prince Akpan Ikim, on May 2020 Sanitation Monitoring Exercise. The team which went round the Capital city supervising waste evacuation also monitored the exercise across the city.
Addressing the press during the exercise, the Commissioner noted that aside from the Covid-19 pandemic, they were other prevailing challenges that shouldn’t be ignored. Hon. Ekong said a clean Environment was necessary to fight Malaria. “In this era of Covid-19, you don’t need to wait for the Government to ask you to stay safe. You need to take personal responsibilities which include social distancing,” Hon. Ekong stated.
Also addressing pressmen, the Chairman of Akwa Ibom Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency, Prince Ikim said the Government through the agency is doing everything possible to ensure that Akwa Ibom is and healthy. Further promised Akwa Ibom citizens to ensure the state remains the cleanest in the Federation. Prince Ikim further noted that both the Agency and the Ministry of Environment, are working in synergy.
