Vandalism is our major challenge-MD railway service
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway corporation, Engr. Fidet Okhiria has blamed the slow pace of rail development in the East on vandalism and theft of rail equipment. The railway service MD who disclosed this in an interview with our reporters, noted that aside slowing down the development of railway in the region, it poses serious safety risk to train users, as trains are bound to derail.
“Since we took over from the colonial masters, I can say we have just started growing. “The Eastern line is part of the ongoing rehabilitation process, but the unfortunate thing is that our people continue to vandalize and stall the process,” the MD said.
He further stated that the Agency is engaging traditional leaders in the fight against vandalism.
Recall that in November 2019, the Enugu State Police Command arrested two suspected vandals and recovered two buses loaded with 27 vandalized rail line components
