Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have seized 12,385kg of cannabis imported from neighbouring country and smuggled into Lagos through the waterways.

Femi Babafemi, the spokesman for the agency said that credible intelligence revealed that the illicit substance was brought in from a West African country through the ocean and showed that the illicit consignment was ferried on boats to the Eko Atlantic Beach, Victoria Island from where it would be distributed to drug hotspots such as Island, Peti Alagba and other places across Lagos and other states.

He said over 50 narcotic officers stormed the beach on November 27, recovered the consignment and two trucks, a Toyota Sienna bus, and arrested three suspects. Those arrested are Abdulkadri Zakari, 24; Ka’abu Sausu, 45, and Lawrence Adie, 27.

Babafemi also said a 70-year-old woman, Mrs. Beatrice Aigbedion, was among suspects arrested in parts of Edo in connection with the seizure of over 5,000kg of assorted illicit drugs across the state.

He said after days of surveillance, NDLEA operatives on November 24 stormed a warehouse at Uhiere, Ovia North East council of the state, where they recovered 4,261.5kg of cannabis sativa, while a suspect, Ikong Stanley, was arrested.

…But why do both old and young indulge in such act?
