First eight months of 2021, Two thousand have been killed in Myanmar road crash

Two thousand, two hundred and twenty-nine people have been killed and 5,869 injured in 4,500 road crashes in Myanmar in the first eight months of 2021.

This was according to figures released by the Ministry of Transport and Communication on Monday.

The Yangon region registered the highest mortality rate from January to August with 307 deaths, followed by the Mandalay region with 274 deaths and the Bago region with 256 deaths.

It showed the figures from the Road Transport Administration Department (RTAD) under the ministry.

This year saw a decrease in the number of road accident cases compared with 9,292 in the same period last year, and the death toll in road accidents decreased by 967.

Deaths and injuries related to auto crashes remain a major concern in Myanmar, mostly caused by human errors such as speeding, negligent driving, drowsy driving, and others.
