The Covid-19 pandemic situation worsens in Goa, a state in the Southwestern part of India as one in every two people test positive.
That’s a new record high in the whole of India as the situation keeps spiralling downward, making it the state with the highest positivity rate in the nation. However, the rate of infection may be higher as not everyone has been tested.
The positivity rate rose to 51.4% on Friday in the state, hitting a new record high, according to Goa Health Minister Vishwajit P. Rane.
The minister suggested a total lockdown in the state to curb the spread of the Virus– citing that about 690,360 tests in total had been carried out in the state as of Friday.
In his statement, he said: “That is the need of the hour,” adding that the state’s chief minister was “seriously considering” a lockdown. “We have had issues of oxygen supply and other issues. We need to bring the positivity rate down. That’s the only way forward.”
