After the recent announcement of the Southeast regional Vigilante group, Ebubeagu, its outfit was made public during an outing in Ebonyi. In recollection that the five governors of the Southeast region, on Sunday which was on April 11th, launched the Ebubeagu regional security to fight terrorism in the zone.

The Chairman Southeast governors’ forum and governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, opened up to news men in the Imo government house, alongside with other Southeast governors. From what he said, the regional security is designed to be a joint Vigilante from Southeast with their headquarters in Enugu.

As seen in a video that was aired by AIT on Wednesday, April 28, the makeup of the group consists of about 6 young men was seen filing out in front of the government house, in Ebonyi in their khakis. If one zooms in closer, an emblem of a tiger which is the totem of the group , which the group stands for, the name of the group – Ebubeagu is seen designed on the breast and arms of the uniforms.

In the time the outfit was supposed to be launched, the illicit group, Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, made a launching already for their security group, the Eastern Security Network, ESN, in recent day have been accused of causing mayhem.

In less than two months, more than 6 police stations have been attacked and burnt down, and in some state some security personnels have met their end. To the extent the IMO state Governor  househas also been torched.

And of recent, the palace of a traditional ruler in Anambra was also, allegedly attacked by gunmen who are suspected to be ESN members. However, the group had since denied all these allegations about being involved in any of these attacks. The igbo congress in diaspora spoke against the formation of this Ebubeagu group, urging the southeast governors to adopt the ESN and work with them. With the launch of the Vigilante group, it is glaring that the Ebubeagu security outfit is here to stay after all. Feelers also have it that majority of the southeastern residents have also asked for the legalization of the ESN as they have what it takes to exterminate criminality banditry in the region.
