Due to the recent attacks in River state, Gov. Nyesom Wike has imposed a night curfew in the state which is to begin tomorrow, April 28, 2021, until further notice.
According to a state broadcast released on the Governor’s official Twitter handle on Tuesday, the recent mishap in the state begot the declaration.
In his statement, addressing the people of River state, he noted that, on Saturday 24 April 2021 some innocent officers of the customs, police and civil defence services on their duty posts along the Port Harcourt- Owerri express way were ambushed and gruesomely murdered in cold blood by armed attackers. The mishap didn’t end there, on Sunday April 2021, the state witnessed another attack and killing of officers and men of the Nigerian Army right in their duty post at Abua town in Abua/ Odua LGA of the state.
He further noted that the security agencies are investigating the attack with a view of bringing the perpetrators to justice. He sincerely, confessed his unawareness of where and when the next attack will take place, and also, the motive behind the attack.
He also indicated with no that that the attackers and their sponsors are people who are not in Rivers state, and the right measures will be taken by the government to deal with the unpalatable situation which stand s as a threat to citizen’s rest of mind.
He declared a night curfew and no person or vehicle is allowed into an out of Rivers State from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am from tomorrow 28th April 2021 until further notice.
