Rivers seeks media support in coronavirus fight

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Government is seeking more intense scrutiny of information by media houses on the coronavirus outbreak before broadcasting.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, PAULINUS NSIRIM, made the call when Rivers State Committee on Coronavirus Enlightenment held a Stakeholders’ meeting with journalists in Port Harcourt.

NSIRIM, who said the meeting became necessary because of the important roles the media play, urged the broadcast houses and other mediums to always get their information from state Ministries of Health and Information and Communications.

The Commissioner further said it was a call for collective action and social responsibility for the media to ensure that all residents and businessmen in the state were properly enlightened about COVID-19.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Professor PRINCEWILL CHIKE, urged the media to only get their information from World Health Organisation, the Federal Ministry of Health and Rivers State Ministry of Health before informing the public.
