Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Kwara state Command, says it has embarked on enlightenment of members of various transport unions in the state on road safety strategies.

This is contained in statement signed by the sector Commander, Mr. Jonathan Owoade, which was made available to journalists on Monday.

Owoade noted that the public education includes the need for them to understand the process of obtaining or renewing their driving license.

The Sector Commander stated that he held a joint enlightenment meeting with the officials and members of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and National Association of Corporate Transporters (NACT).

He asserted that the meeting was in line with the stakeholders’ engagement and collaboration agenda of the FRSC.

According to the statement, “The need for both taxi and commercial vehicle drivers to obtain national driver’s license cannot be overemphasized.”

Owoade further said that FRSC is of great concern over speeding, wrongful overtaking and indiscriminate parking of commercial vehicles, hence the need for the joint meeting.

He also charged the participants on the need for positive attitudinal change on the road, and as well imbibe good and better road culture so as to eradicate road traffic crashes on the nation’s highways.

Owoade also cautioned against overloading, especially carrying two passengers in the front seat of a vehicle, saying such practice was capable of causing road crashes and death.

The sector commander further urged road users, both motorists and pedestrians, to obey traffic rules and regulations in order to stay alive.
