The Lagos State Police Command says the Uber passenger who attempted suicide by jumping into the Lagos lagoon, was trying to escape justice, after allegedly killing his girlfriend.

Princewill David, who resides at Tajudeen Balogun Street, Igando, Lagos, had boarded a taxi operated by cab-hailing service, Uber from his residence on February 27, 2020. On getting to the Third Mainland Bridge, David told the driver he was pressed and wants to alight. Suspecting a sinister intention, the driver refused and drove him to a police checkpoint on the bridge. While the driver conversed with police officers, David left the car, jumped into the lagoon and landed on some floating logs of wood underneath the bridge and was later rescued by the RRS personnel, the Marine Police Unit and some local divers.

The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, who paraded David and other suspected criminals at the Lagos Police command headquarters in Ikeja, stated that David had an altercation with his yet-to-be-identified girlfriend and killed her in the process. Odumosu said, “He had an altercation with his girlfriend and killed her in a hotel and went to jump into the lagoon to escape justice for the crime he committed.”
