The former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Lamido Sanusi II, has dragged the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Service, the Attorney-General of Kano State and the Attorney-General of the Federation to court, over his banishment.

Sanusi was dethroned by the Kano State Government on Monday, and according to the Secretary to the Kano State Government, Usman Alhaji, Sanusi was removed for his “disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the governor and other lawful authorities.” Following the dethronement, Sanusi was taken to Awe in Nassarawa State, after being banished by the State Government.

In a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/357/2020 and filed by Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Sanusi is seeking for an interim order releasing him “from the detention and or confinement of the respondents and restoring the applicant’s rights to human dignity, personal liberty, freedom of association and movement in Nigeria, (apart from Kano State) pending the hearing and determination of the applicant’s originating summons.”

Sanusi’s legal team is led by Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) and made up of about 30 lawyers including 12 Senior Advocates of Nigeria.
