Federal Government is overhauling the N-Power Scheme

Nigeria’s Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq, says the Federal Government is overhauling the programmes under the National Social Investment Programmes (NSIPs), to efficiency in making resources available to Nigerians in need. The National Social Investment Programmes includes N-Power scheme and the National Home Grown School Feeding programme launched by the Buhari administration in 2015.

The Minister disclosed when the Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Abdullahi Balarabe Salame, led a delegation of members of the committee to the ministry. At the meeting, the Minister noted that the N-Power programme aims to drive skill development and job creation for unemployed youths between the ages of 18- 35 which is federal government’s direct intervention to tackle youths unemployment and re-energise public service delivery in education, agriculture, health and tax.

Responding, the leader of the delegation, Hon. Salame, noted that the creation of the Ministry came at an appropriate time, where many Nigerians had become victims of terrorism, farmer-herder clashes, armed banditry and other communal clashes.
He also said that the familiarisation visit was part of the resolution of the National Assembly to partner with the executive arm towards ensuring adequate implementation of government programmes.
