The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the award of a PPP contract for the development and deployment of an e-ticketing system for Nigeria’s National Rail services. The system will be implemented starting with the Abuja-Kaduna railway.

The MD Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Fidet Okhiria, had earlier stated in a telephone conversation with one of our correspondent, that the e-ticketing process has gone to an advanced stage of development, and awaiting the necessary approval for them to be deployed.

He also said “It can be sold through phones, at railway stations and designated franchise outlets.”

Before now, the Honourable Minister for Transport, Rt. Hon. Chibuke Rotimi Amaechi, had announced the opening of bids for companies who had interest in facilitating the e-tickets through PPP. The minister said: We have advertised for people to submit their interest and we have gotten so many companies showing interest, so we can have many vendors.

We want to get a secured backbone to be handled by secured company. I also understand the need for cyber security.”

With e-ticketing in place, the problem of ticket racketeering would have been resolved.
