Breaking: Shehu Sani Released from EFCC custody

Senator Shehu Sani, has been released from the custody of the EFCC after meeting his bail conditions.

Confirming the report, acting spokesperson of the EFCC, Tony Orilade, said Shehu Sani was released on Thursday evening. Orilade said: “Yes, he was released yesterday evening.”

Mr. Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the last Senate, is a human rights activist. He is the President of the Civil Rights Congress of Nigeria – (CRCN), and the Chairman of Hand-in-Hand, Africa. Last month, Shehu Sani was arrested for allegedly collecting $25,000 in the name of the EFCC acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu, an allegation he had denied.


After pleading not guilty to the charges, the judge had granted Senator Shehu bail, and a travel ban.


According to the judge, Mr. Sani must not travel outside Nigeria without obtaining permission from the court. The judge named the bail conditions to include; “N10 million with one surety, the surety should be an owner of a landed property within the jurisdiction of this court.”


Earlier, Shehu had told Pressmen that the claim by the EFCC, was sponsored to tarnish his reputation and mute him.
