U.S. Impeachment Trial: who are on Trump’s defense teams?

Defense team for United States President Donald Trump has begun its argument in the ongoing senate trial of Trump’s Impeachment. According to the trial rule which was approved by the U.S. senate, the defense team will have three days for 24 hours of opening arguments.
Trump’s defense team is made up of 10 lawyers and 8 republicans. The lawyers on the team include;

Pat Cipollone (Team Lead)


Cipollone is a graduate of the University of Chicago law school and was named White House Counsel by President Donald Trump in October 2018. He succeeded Don McGahn who left office on October 17, 2018.
Before becoming White House’s councel, Cipollone who is married with 10 children, was a partner at the Kirkland & Ellis law firm and is said to be worth $6.7 million.

Jay Sekulow


Jay Sekulow who is Trump’s personal lawyer, is chief counsel at the American Center for Law & Justice (ACLJ). Sekulow hosts a radio and television talk show and is also a frequent guest commentator on the Christian Broadcasting Network and the Fox News Channel.

Ken Starr


Starr is the 39th Solicitor General of the United States and a former U.S. federal Court of Appeals judge who filed the report that led to impeachment of Bill Clinton and a five-year suspension of Clinton’s law license.

Other lawyers on the defense team are: Former Harvard law school professor, Alan Dershowitz, Mike Purpura, Pam Bondi, Pat Philbin, Jane Raskin, Eric Herschmann, and Robert Ray
