The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), DCI Sunday James, says operatives of the NIS have rescued 9 girls from being trafficked through the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

In a statement by NIS signed by DCI Sunday James, interrogations by its officials led to the discovery that the girls were traveling for employment without knowing their employers nor being aware of the nature of the jobs they were going for. He added that the trip was arranged for them by agents who thought of exploiting the naivety of the girls.

“After intense interrogation, the two later confessed they were going for hustle in Dubai. Another three, of the girls, claimed they were going to India for medical treatment without referrals. “When further asked the nature of sickness they said yellow fever before they finally confessed to be going for hustle in India,” James said.

In appealing to parents to be cautious against the trafficking of their children, DCI James said: “The Comptroller-General of NIS, Mr. Muhammad Babandede, therefore, calls on parents to be wary of juicy offers on their children, from family and non-family members to take the children abroad. “Most of these trips are deceitful, camouflaged with employment, studies or visit which may end up in exploitation or death. Operatives at the various entry and exit points will never permit them departure.”
