US- Iran Crises: Iran pulls out of 2015 nuclear deal, Israel threatened
Following the United States Airstrike that killed Iranian Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani, the Iran government on Sunday said it will not keep to the terms of the Iran Nuclear deal of 2015.
The Iran nuclear deal known officially as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is an agreement on Iranian nuclear program reached in Vienna on July 14, 2015, between Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (China, France, Russia, United Kingdom, United States), Germany and the European Union.
Under the agreement, Iran agreed to eliminate its stockpile of medium-enriched uranium, cut its stockpile of low-enriched uranium by 98%, and reduce by about two-thirds the number of its gas centrifuges for 13 years. Iran also agreed not to build any new heavy-water facilities for 13 years, Uranium-enrichment activities will be limited to a single facility using first-generation centrifuges for 10 years and other facilities will be converted to avoid proliferation risks. The aim of the agreement being a means of preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
To monitor and verify Iran’s compliance with the agreement, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will have regular access to all Iranian nuclear facilities. The agreement provides that in return for verifiably abiding by its commitments, Iran will receive relief from U.S., European Union, and United Nations Security Council nuclear-related sanctions. In May 2018, the United States pulled out of the deal, claiming it is not enough to stop Iran from producing nuclear weapons.
With Iran continuing with its nuclear programme, Israel is threatened as a nuclear programme in Iran, endangers Isreal’s decades-old strategy of establishing itself as an unrivalled military power in the Middle East and only nation with nuclear powers in the region.
