Akwa Ibom State Government promises relief for Iwuokpom Fire Outbreak victims

The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has promised victims of the Iwuokpom Community Fire disaster, support and timely intervention to alleviate the suffering caused by the fire incidents.

Representing the Governor on a visit to sympathize with indigenes of Iwuokpom community, the Secretary to the State Government who represented the Governor, said: “Governor Udom Emmanuel is a listening, compassionate and a very responsive leader whom at any time is having the people at heart. Unfortunately, he is engaged in another official assignment outside the State. Our coming here on his directive is to ascertain level of damages for possible rapid action to ensure the sufferings and pains of Iwuokpum people caused by the fire inferno is assuaged indicates the Governor’s love for his people.”

The State’s Commissioner for Special Duties and Aviation Development, Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, an indigene of Ibeno Local Government Area who was part of Government delegation further assured the people of Iwuokpon of Government’s support. He said: “Governor Emmanuel is a man whose word are his bond. He is not happy that this unwholesome incidence happened hence our coming to help map out measures through which those affected can be assisted and the area rebuilt”.

Speaking on behalf of Iwuokpom community, the village head of the community, Chief Okon Akpanowung, thanked the Governor for the visit, while appealing for speedy donation of relieve materials.
The Riverine Iwuokpom community in Ibeno Local Government area of Akwa Ibom State was thrown into mourning early hours of Friday, January 3, 2020, after fire destroyed over 2,000 houses in the Village.
