FG Begins payment to School Feeding Programme Vendors

Days after the Federal Government gave reasons for delay in payment to food vendors under the Home Grown School Feeding Programme (HGSF), the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq has announced that the Government has started releasing funds to vendors. In the statement released on Sunday afternoon, the Honourable Minister noted that the early release of funds is to ensure availability of food items before resumption date.
In 2016 the Nigerian Government under President Buhari re-launched a national Home Grown School Feeding (HGSF) programme to address the 40% of school children that go to school hungry and to implement an incentive to put 10 million out-of-school children in classrooms. According to reports issued by the Federal Government, the programme is feeding over nine million pupils in 52,604 schools across 32 states of the Federation. The programme is also said to have employed over 106,000 cooks in Anambra, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Kaduna, Kebbi, Kogi, Sokoto, and Nasarawa. Other state are Taraba, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Plateau, Delta, Zamfara, Imo, Jigawa, Kano, Niger, Katsina, Ondo, Edo, Gombe, Ekiti, and Yobe.
